Bea asked us if we'd include a personal note from her:
Dear Dr. Jacobs and Hollie:
Do you even recognize me? You've never seen how pretty I look when I stand up, have you? I've come a long way from the days when I came into your clinic for help and all I could do was lie down on my side. I hope you couldn't tell, but I was very scared during these visits, yet my fear subsided as soon as I took one look at you guys and knew that I'd be in good hands.
Hollie, thank you for coming into the underwater treadmill with me and encouraging me. I remember that whenever I paddled using all four legs I could hear the genuine enthusiasm in your voice when you cheered me on and told me that I was a good girl and was doing well. I was scared when you first put me in, but eventually I remembered how it felt to swim again and I liked it. I also really appreciated the way you dried me off afterwards....you took special care to be sure I was dry from head to toe (you must know how much I hate being wet!). Dr. Jacobs, thank you for the wonderful massages that you gave to me and for the gentle way you encouraged and told me what exercises we'd be doing next. I hope I was a cooperative patient and made you proud.
When I first came home from the hosital after my surgery and was barely able to lift my head up off of my bed, I wasn't sure if I would ever walk again, but now because of your help I'm looking forward to the spring when I'll again be able to explore my favorite swimming holes, playgrounds and parks...something that, just a few months ago, seemed like an impossibility.
Your #1 Fan,
Bea St.Cyr
